Welcome to the Marys Head Website. If you haven’t had all of your vaccinations, you may want to "re-up" after visiting. WARNING: Marys Head may cause difficulty in breathing, profuse sweating, and ringing in the ears. Alcohol may intensify this effect. The toxin, in its pure musical form, is particularly harmful to the tissues of the heart, brain and central nervous system. Developed in a top-secret lab called "The Woodshed", the Marys Head toxin was first developed by accident while trying to formulate a new chemical stump remover using intense laser light and a sugar substitute. A derivative of classic doom metal, this virile toxic strain of music finds roots in blues, jazz and funk. The invasion of pathogenic microrock-organisms in the body may produce subsequent tissue injury, and result in notable nervous convulsions of the eye and neck muscles.

Founded by lead singer/guitar front man Dave Langlois in 1994. After the early 90's playing in several hard rock and classic rock cover bands, D.L. and the other original members of Marys Head were looking to retch up something different with a harder edge that they could cut their teeth on. The first inoculation of the public was with early strains of Marys Head from the 93’ release of She’s Feeling a Little Under The Leather fabricated at Courtlen Recording in Hanson, MA by local rock producer Scott Riebling. Under The Leather proved infectious indeed, seeing Marys Head featured at Rock venues in and about Southern New England in the mid to late 90’s.

During 95’ to 97’, Langlois spent a few year stint as a road dog on the national indie rock scene working for bands like Fig Dish, Superdrag, Letters to Cleo, Juliana Hatfield, Tanya Donnelly, Polara and others. Langlois then returned to the Woodshed with fellow canine enthusiast Brutus Gash, a dedicated yet wayward drummer of dubious mental stability. During this period "The Head" also saw the addition of New Bedford's own LL Wordplay on bass guitar. In light of Wordplays status as an unassuming, and seemingly innocuous closet anarchist, the band has acquired a completely undeserved reputation as a force for social change. This change in cast saw the creation/release of seven original hard rock tracks, including single When You Were Mine in 98’, again produced by Scott Riebling. The single contended in local college radio show rotation and made a strong showing in several songwriting contests.

"Marys Head is ready to rock!" says front man Langlois, "Our latest particular strain of song seems to be very effective on this local breed of Massachusetts 'long pig'. We'll have these grass eaters on their hind legs and yelping in no time" 2003 found Marys Head re-infecting the local south-coast rock scene with several shows at "The New Wave Café", "Stingrays", and "K.C.'s Tap" in Pawtucket R.I., delivering rock solid musical performances and an energy level that has kept Marys Head a current force in the local hard rock music scene for years.

2004 saw the addition of the assailing blightful tones of Eric "Rico" Purrington on electric guitar and stinkfist. Performances included several shows on the South Coast’s New Wave Cafe and Rhode Island’s KC Taps. Marys Head spent a cold February weekend in the lab assembling their most noxious material for public aerosol dispersal, slated to be released in October of 2005. This dastardly concoction again produced by the audio-augmenting Scott Rambone Riebling. CD release party was a blast,! Someday we'll get the damn pictures up.

2006 and 2007 were generally quiet for the band. Many cold nights refining the craft of Hard Rock, with a few shows here and there, and a few near glances with death just to keep us on our toes. Sadly, the Head bid fairwell to Eric Purrington in 2007 as he undertakes his most ambitious adventure yet, alligator hunting in the Florida Everglades. ...a successful expidition returns Rico in 2008 with goals of renewing the jam and recording the collection of new songs mashed up over the past few years. 2009 saw the death of our beloved "WoodShed". The shed lives on in our hearts no less than Stonehenge did in the hearts of the druid high priests. This was a location we all came over the years to party, create rock music, and freeze our asses off until we got the fire going in the ole' woodstove.
2010... Holy Shit... really? We lived this long? Wow! Yes, Marys Head is still together, and we expect great things for 2010. We have a collection of new songs, which we hope to go back into the studio to record as soon as it gets cold enough. Huh? Anyways, many thanks to Double L for giving the band refuge in Casa El Larrio. Look out for some local and not as local gigs in 2010, and a new CD. We miss you all.
